About EPIC

The California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA) has delegated responsibility to the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) for developing environmental indicators, using an open, participatory process. These environmental indicators, as part of Cal/EPA's strategic planning process, will enable Cal/EPA to refine goals, efficiently allocate resources, and promote greater accountability in the State's environmental programs. Cal/EPA's environmental indicators will also provide information to the public regarding the state of California's environment.

About This Site

The Program for Environmental Policy and Planning Systems (PEPPS) of the Institute of Science and Public Affairs (ISPA) at the Florida State University is providing consultative and technical services to EPIC. One of the key services is to conduct a survey of the indicator literature.  The survey is intended to identify resources relating to conceptual issues, indicator quality data, and examples of quality indicator products.  These resources will be used by Cal/EPA EPIC staff to design and develop the first version of the indicator system.

The purpose of this web site is to provide a means of displaying the results of this survey. Users should realize that this site will be in development throughout the course of the EPIC project, with material being added and reorganized on a regular basis.
